To our students, collaborators, and community,
Lebanon is living through another period of war, and like everyone around us, the people of the Beirut Film Center are carrying its weight in their own lives and in the lives of those they love. We want to be honest with you about where we stand, and to share a change in how BFC is led.
Our workshops this summer
For the summer of 2026, all BFC workshops are canceled. This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one for now. It frees each of us, as individuals, to put our energy where it is most needed: into supporting one another and the people affected by the war. We are not stepping away from our mission. We are actively looking for ways to keep offering workshops under the current circumstances, and the moment conditions allow, we will resume. Our space, our curriculum, our equipment, and our teaching capacity remain intact and ready.
A change in our board
BFC is also entering a new chapter in its governance. Three members are stepping down from our governing body, and three new members are joining.
Yal Solan is stepping down to focus on the Alternative Kitchen and on her own career. Mazen Hachem is stepping down to focus on capacity building at Solo Films. Nagham Darwish is stepping down to focus on several projects within the community. We are grateful for everything the three of them have given BFC, and none of them is leaving us behind: all three will continue to collaborate with and support BFC in their own individual capacities.
Joining the board are three people we are proud to welcome:
Sandra Abrass, a filmmaker, director, and editor based in Beirut.
Souad Saidi, a visual artist and theatre practitioner.
Angi Mrad, an Emmy Award winning producer
Samer Beyhum continues as lead instructor and remains on the board, carrying BFC's work forward.
To everyone holding on through this difficult time: take care of yourselves and each other. We will see you again soon.
