First, build your foundation: 8 structured sessions guide you through the theory and practice of sound engineering. Learn the science behind sound, explore basic mixing techniques, and develop your technical expertise.

Session 1 (2 hours): Audio Basics
This session demystifies audio, taking you from the science of sound waves to microphone polar patterns. Learn about equipment, explore sound quality, and develop critical listening skills.

Session 2 (2 hours): Cables, Connections, & Microphones
This session untangles the web of audio connections! Learn about different audio cable types, their uses, and how to make secure connections. We’ll delve into microphones, exploring dynamics, condensers, and their ideal setup. Get hands-on with basic mic techniques and troubleshooting.

Session 3 (2 hours): Mixer I
Discover the evolution of analog giants to digital powerhouses, understanding the core differences in sound and workflow. Dive deeper into the heart of a mixer, learning about channels, buses, inserts, sends, and their roles in routing and manipulating audio. Demystify gain structure, the cornerstone of balanced sound, and unlock the secrets to achieving professional mixes.

Session 4 (2 hours): Compression
Unleash the power of compression, learn to control dynamics, add punch, and achieve smooth, polished audio. Discover the magic of sidechaining, creating dynamic effects like pumping basslines and rhythmic vocal dips.

Session 5 (2 hours): Mixer II
Session II on mixers deep dives into the essential tools that sculpt the professional sound. Get hands-on with EQing, mastering the art of frequency shaping to tame unruly instruments and carve sonic space.

Session 6 (2 hours): Effects
Explore the vast sonic possibilities of effects processors, from reverb and delay to distortion and modulation. Refine your routing skills, ensuring seamless signal flow and creative blending.

Session 7 (2 hours): DAW Integration
Unleash the power of your existing gear! This workshop dives into using a DAW for playback, automation, and multitrack recording.

Session 8 (2 hours): Live Mixing
A practice session setting up a mixer, micing instruments, and mixing a prerecorded gig. Master the mixer in a simulated live setting, tackling challenges like feedback control, quick adjustments, and dynamic transitions. Get real-time feedback from our instructor and fellow participants, fine-tuning your skills in the heat of the moment. This session is all about translating theory into practice, giving you the confidence and experience to mix any band live!

Then, take the stage:
As part of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to finalize your training by actively participating in a live band session. In this role as an assistant sound engineer, you will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of the show. This hands-on experience will involve collaborating with the event team to meticulously plan the setup, ensuring all technical aspects are in place for a seamless and unforgettable performance.
